In the early morning hours of January 13, 2023, a sense of unease settled over a normally quiet neighborhood in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Inside a home on Mill Street, the life of 31-year-old Vincent Ciccone, a male, was about to be tragically cut short. Just after 5:30 a.m., police received a call reporting a shooting and were dispatched to the residence. Upon their arrival, first responders found Ciccone suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite life-saving measures and being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The events leading to the fatal shooting began with a phone call. Alec Mineard, a coworker and recent romantic partner of the woman who lived with Ciccone, told police he received a call from her claiming Ciccone had physically assaulted her. Mineard informed her that he was coming to the house with a gun. According to Mineard's account to investigators, he entered the home with his weapon drawn and witnessed a physical altercation between Ciccone and the woman. Mineard stated that he attempted to get Ciccone to leave, but claimed that the unarmed man 'immediately came toward' him, prompting Mineard to shoot him twice. The woman confirmed to police that it was Mineard who had shot Ciccone.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Alec Mineard was arrested and faced charges of voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. He was subsequently held at the Beaver County Jail on a $500,000 bond. For Vincent Ciccone's family, the loss was devastating. His siblings, Lou Ciccone and Michelle Hanshaw, described him as a loving father to his two children, Abby and Colton, whom he was homeschooling. They acknowledged that he had struggled with depression following the death of his parents and a botched surgery that left him in constant pain and unable to work. His family remembered him as a great father, stating it was his best accomplishment.
