On January 19, 2023, 16-year-old Shaheed Saoud was fatally shot while seated in the backseat of a car in Northeast Philadelphia, not far from his childhood home. A senior at Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy, Shaheed was known for his exceptional mathematical abilities and was well-liked among his peers. Standing at 6-foot-2, he was a natural on the basketball court and aspired to play college basketball, dedicating time to correspond with college coaches about his prospects.
