In January of 2023, the life of 34-year-old Kenneth A. Lennex was tragically cut short in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His story began to unfold on January 22nd when he left to spend time with an acquaintance known as 'Weezy' at a residence on Kingsboro Street in the Beltzhoover neighborhood. When his longtime girlfriend was unable to reach him, she grew concerned and went to the house, where she saw Kenneth's car parked outside.
The man who answered the door, later identified as Le'Juane Powell, claimed Kenneth had already left. However, her suspicions grew as she witnessed two men carrying a heavy, rolled-up carpet from the house.
The following day, with still no word from Kenneth, his girlfriend officially reported him missing. The investigation led police to the grim discovery of his body on January 26th in a wooded area on Herrod Street in the Elliott neighborhood. He had been shot multiple times. Investigators quickly honed in on the Kingsboro Street residence, where a search revealed damning evidence, including blood spatter, spent bullets, and two bloodstained guns. They also found a rolled-up carpet in an adjacent lot containing blood, brain matter, and Kenneth's watch.
The investigation, aided by a trail of evidence that included text messages, Instagram photos, and surveillance camera footage, pointed to Le'Juane Powell, then 29, as the primary suspect. He was arrested and charged with homicide and abuse of a corpse. The evidence suggested that Kenneth had been shot eight times inside the Kingsboro Street home before his body was wrapped in blankets and disposed of in the woods. Phone records indicated that Powell made no attempt to contact Kenneth after his girlfriend's inquiries, despite his claims to the contrary.
A second individual, Deonte Kidd, aged 28, was also implicated in the crime. He faced charges of hindering apprehension, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence for his role in the events following the murder. Ultimately, Le'Juane Powell pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 22 to 44 years in prison. Deonte Kidd pleaded guilty to lesser charges, including hindering prosecution and abuse of a corpse, and was sentenced to two years of probation. The investigation into Kenneth Lennex's murder also inadvertently led to solving another homicide, as evidence found on Powell's phone connected him and Kidd to a fatal home invasion that occurred in 2022.
