On June 24, 2023, 71-year-old Delores "Dolly" Selby was tragically killed in a shooting incident at her residence in New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania. Her sister, 65-year-old Mary Ann Lihosit from Irving, Texas, was also fatally shot during the same incident. Both women suffered multiple rifle wounds to the torso, and their deaths were ruled homicides.
The primary suspect in this case was Delores Selby's son, 43-year-old Benjamin D. Selby.
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at the Klein Road residence. Upon arrival, they found the home barricaded with an armed individual inside. The Beaver County Emergency Services Unit forcibly entered the residence, apprehending Benjamin Selby without further incident. Inside the home, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Delores and Mary, along with Benjamin's 92-year-old grandmother, Dolores McClain, who was unharmed but taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Following his arrest, Benjamin Selby was charged with two counts of criminal homicide and one count of kidnapping for ransom. He was held in the Beaver County Jail without bail. Reports indicate that Selby had a history of mobility issues, being wheelchair-bound due to a previous motorcycle accident. While incarcerated, he reportedly refused medical treatment and assistance from jail staff.
On July 7, 2023, less than two weeks after his incarceration, Benjamin Selby was found unresponsive in his isolation cell at the Beaver County Jail. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead shortly after. Preliminary investigations showed no immediate signs of trauma or suicide, and the exact cause of death remained under investigation pending autopsy results.
The tragic deaths of Delores and Mary, followed by the subsequent death of the accused, Benjamin, have left the community in mourning and searching for answers.
