In the summer of 2023, the life of 57-year-old Carolyn I. Hand Eash of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, was brought to a tragic and unexpected end. A woman known for her beautiful spirit and contagious smile, Carolyn's death on June 30, 2023, left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. She was a dedicated employee, having worked for over 30 years at Fry Communications before bringing her light to the Harrisburg USPS Distribution Plant for the last two years of her life.
The circumstances surrounding her death were revealed to be a murder-suicide. Carolyn was found in her home on Grantham Road in Upper Allen Township by police who were conducting a welfare check. It was determined that she had been fatally shot by her 49-year-old fiancé, Timothy Hanford, who then took his own life. The couple had only recently become engaged in April of that year.
Carolyn had been a widow, having lost her husband of 29 years, Jesse Eash, in 2021. Together, they had shared a love for outdoor activities such as horseback riding, gardening, skiing, and bike riding. Her obituary lovingly remembers her as a devoted wife and a shining light in the world. In the wake of this tragedy, her family suggested that those who wished to honor her memory could make donations to the Zero Prostate Cancer Foundation or the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
