In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23, 2023, the life of 32-year-old Chad Runyan was cut short in a fatal shooting in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Authorities were called to the 400 block of Baldwin Avenue around 1:45 a.m. following reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Runyan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene before Runyan was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
He was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m. in the Emergency Department of Sharon Regional Medical Center. The Mercer County Coroner later identified the victim as Chad Alan Runyan, Sr., a resident of Transfer, Pennsylvania, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
The Sharon Police Department, with assistance from the Mercer County District Attorney's Office, the Mercer County Coroner's Office, and the Sharon Fire Department, launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. While the investigation was reported to be active and ongoing, authorities indicated they had a few potential suspects in mind. However, as of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the case. The community was left to mourn the loss of Runyan, who was remembered as a father and an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing.
