On May 23, 2019, 24-year-old African American male Khalil "Champ" Hopson was fatally shot in his home on Cedar Avenue in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Responding to reports of gunfire around 5:30 a.m., police discovered Hopson with a gunshot wound, being tended to by his father. Hopson's pit bull, Blue, had also been shot. Hopson was transported to a Youngstown, Ohio hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that day. Blue survived initially but later died due to the injuries sustained.
