Hakeem R. Murray, known to many as "HK," was tragically shot and killed on November 24, 2017, in the Parkway Gardens housing complex on Chicago's South Side. He was 22 years old at the time of his death. The shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m., and Murray sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m.

His murder drew attention in part because of his connections to Chicago's OBlock neighborhood, a community that has frequently been the scene of gang violence. Notably, Murray's death followed the killing of his brother James "T-Roy" Johnson just nine months earlier, highlighting the ongoing cycle of violence within the area. Parkway Gardens, also known as OBlock, is notorious for being a high-crime zone with ongoing conflicts between rival gangs.
