In the autumn of 2023, the life of 19-year-old Kevin Marcus Cagle was tragically cut short in what would become a grim and unsettling homicide case. A young man from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he was remembered by loved ones for his charismatic and carefree attitude, his loyalty to his family, and his ability to bring a smile to any room.
The harrowing story began to unfold on Friday, October 13, 2023, when a woman walking her dog made a gruesome discovery.
Along Interstate 80 in Liberty Township, Montour County, near the Creek and Mexico Roads overpass, she noticed what appeared to be a human figure inside garbage bags. Authorities were alerted, and the remains were soon identified as those of Kevin Cagle. The Montour County Coroner's Office swiftly ruled his death a homicide, determining he had been shot in the chest.
Investigators believe that Cagle was killed sometime between October 11 and October 13 in Williamsport. The investigation led them to the home of 52-year-old Davere Andre McClain. According to a witness who lived with McClain, Cagle was at their residence when McClain entered a room with a firearm and a knife. The witness stated that McClain believed Cagle was a 'rat.' Cagle was then forced into a bathroom and shot.
Following the murder, Cagle's body was allegedly wrapped in garbage bags and moved to the basement of the home. The next night, with the help of another individual, McClain is said to have transported Cagle's body and disposed of it over a barrier along Interstate 80.
In April 2025, a significant breakthrough was made in the case with the arrest of Davere Andre McClain. He was taken into custody and charged with a multitude of serious offenses, including criminal homicide, aggravated and simple assault, abuse of a corpse, and false imprisonment. He is being held in Lycoming County prison without bail. Two other individuals, 25-year-old Rahsaan Goines and his 49-year-old mother, Chata Harris, were also arrested in connection with the case. They face charges of abuse of a corpse and hindering apprehension or concealing evidence, for their alleged roles in the events following Cagle's death. The case against McClain is proceeding to trial.
