On the night of October 20, 2023, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Coatesville City Police responded to reports of a shooting in front of 139-141 Rosemont Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 41-year-old Lawrence Michael Hurd, a resident of Coatesville, lying on the porch with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Law enforcement officials have identified suspects involved in the incident, indicating that this was an isolated event stemming from an argument between individuals who knew each other. Authorities have stated that there is no evidence to suggest an ongoing danger to the community.
As of now, no arrests have been reported in connection with Hurd's death. The Coatesville Police Department, in collaboration with Chester County detectives, continues to investigate the case. In the wake of this tragedy, Hurd's family and friends gathered to honor his memory. Born in Coatesville in 1982, Lawrence was a graduate of the Coatesville Area School District's class of 2000. He was known for his love of cars and motorcycles, but most importantly, his devotion to his family. He is survived by his mother, Ellanore, two daughters, a son, a sister, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on November 3, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Passtown in Coatesville.
The community remains hopeful that justice will be served for Lawrence Hurd, and that his family will find solace as the investigation progresses.
