On November 9, 2023, 25-year-old Trisha Renee Cole of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, was tragically killed in Corsica. She was found on Coyote Drive with a gunshot wound to the head and tire tracks over her body.
Authorities quickly identified her boyfriend, 20-year-old Dakota Hamner Greeley of Punxsutawney, as the primary suspect. A family member reported that Greeley had shot Cole and intended to provoke a fatal confrontation with police. When state troopers arrived at the scene, Greeley fired two shots from a rifle before fleeing in a pickup truck. After crashing into a wooded area, he attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended. During his arrest, Greeley admitted to shooting Cole, and a .30-30 lever-action rifle was recovered from his vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that Cole was pregnant at the time of her death. Witnesses reported that Greeley had expressed hostility toward the pregnancy, stating it had "ruined his life" and inquiring about terminating it. He allegedly made disturbing comments about harming the unborn child. As a result, additional charges were filed against Greeley, including criminal homicide of an unborn child and abuse of a corpse.
Greeley is currently held without bail in the Jefferson County Jail, facing multiple charges, including criminal homicide, murder, and terroristic threats. The case has prompted discussions about the possibility of seeking the death penalty, though no official decision has been announced.
Trisha Cole was remembered by family and friends for her kind soul and love for people and animals. She was protective of her friends and supportive of those she considered underdogs. Her favorite place was the Edgewood Family Fun Center skating rink, where she found joy and companionship.
