On December 16, 2017, Lakiya Iman Adams, a 20-year-old Black mother of one from Chicago, was sitting in a vehicle with an 18-year-old man in Englewood when a dark-colored Audi rolled past and someone opened fire. It was about 3:40 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue.
She was struck in the body and pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 p.m., while the young man suffered a wound to his leg and made it to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
