Murdered

On January 31, 2009, a tragic fire claimed the lives of 7-year-old Itzel Fernandez and her mother, Roxana Ocampo, in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood. The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning at a three-story apartment building on Argyle Street. The mother and daughter were trapped in their apartment on the second floor, and despite efforts to save them, both succumbed to smoke inhalation. The fire also injured four others and displaced several families in the building.
