Early that morning, at approximately 4:15 a.m., 22-year-old Ricky Shannon entered the apartment at 348 Sassafras Terrace, where Kimberly resided with her family. Shannon opened fire, shooting four individuals: Kimberly, her daughters Gabriella "Gabby" Morgan and Jennifer Day, and her husband Brian Miller. Kimberly sustained fatal gunshot wounds to her chest and abdomen and was pronounced dead at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.
Following the shooting, Shannon forcibly took 19-year-old Gabby Morgan, who had previously filed a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order against him, and fled the scene in a red pickup truck. A high-speed chase ensued, with Shannon leading police through multiple counties at speeds reaching up to 100 mph. The pursuit ended in Dauphin County after police executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Upon stopping, Shannon fired at officers through his windshield, prompting them to return fire, resulting in his death. Inside the truck, authorities discovered Gabby, who had also succumbed to gunshot wounds.
The investigation revealed that Shannon had a history of domestic issues with Gabby, leading to mutual PFA orders filed just days before the incident. Family members reported that Gabby had recently moved back into her family's apartment to distance herself from Shannon. The attack left the family devastated, with both Kimberly and Gabby losing their lives, and Brian and Jennifer recovering from their injuries.
