On January 8, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 3500 block of Nutmeg Place. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Julien Amir Wright inside the home, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Wright was inside his residence with individuals known to him when an interaction led to the fatal shooting. On January 12, 2023, authorities arrested 19-year-old Brayan Millan-Bonilla of Red Springs, charging him with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Wright's death. Millan-Bonilla was booked into the Cumberland County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
Julien Wright's passing was publicly announced by Colvin Funeral Home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A funeral service was held on January 14, 2023, at Colvin Funeral Home Chapel, where family and friends gathered to pay their respects.
The tragic incident has prompted discussions within the Fayetteville community about gun safety and the importance of responsible firearm handling, especially among young adults.
