On February 18, 2023, at approximately 4:57 a.m., Greensboro police responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the 900 block of Ailanthus Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Ra'Vett Patrice Robinson and 31-year-old Tevin Kewann Jolly, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Robinson was transported to Cone Health Moses Cone Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Jolly was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the incident to be a murder-suicide, with Jolly fatally shooting Robinson before taking his own life.
Robinson and Jolly were in a romantic relationship prior to the tragic event. Reports suggest that Jolly had exhibited abusive behavior towards Robinson. The incident has been classified as a domestic violence-related murder-suicide. Robinson leaves behind seven children, ranging in age from 15 years to one-year-old twins. In the wake of her passing, Robinson's mother, along with her husband, has taken in the children, expressing a commitment to keeping the siblings together as their mother had wished.
The Greensboro community has been deeply affected by this tragedy, highlighting the pervasive issue of domestic violence. The Family Justice Center of Greensboro noted that since December 25, 2022, there have been five domestic violence-related homicides in Guilford County, resulting in nine deaths. Authorities urge individuals experiencing domestic violence, or those aware of such situations, to seek assistance from local support services.
