On February 24, 2023, 39-year-old Michael Sheron Sloan-Hall was found deceased in his SUV near his father's residence on West Carroll Street in Magnolia, North Carolina. His girlfriend discovered his body after being unable to reach him by phone; she walked to his father's home, noticed his vehicle parked nearby, and found him unresponsive in the driver's seat. An autopsy later confirmed that Sloan-Hall died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Sloan-Hall was remembered by his family as a "jack-of-all-trades" who was always willing to help others. He left behind a 3-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. His mother, Crystal Sloan, described the past year without him as "miserable" and expressed a deep desire for justice, urging anyone with information to come forward.
As of December 2024, the Duplin County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case, but no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
