On February 26, 2023, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Scotland Neck police responded to reports of a man lying in the roadway on the 1500 block of Roanoke Street. Upon arrival, officers, along with the Halifax County Sheriff's Department, discovered 33-year-old Dayquan Sherrod Pittman, originally from Scotland Neck but residing in Rocky Mount, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
