On the night of March 25, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 19-year-old Isayah Malik Stywall was fatally shot on Cherrycrest Lane in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred during a double shooting in which another individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported Stywall to Atrium Main Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the days following the shooting, detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) conducted an investigation that led to the identification of a suspect. On April 3, 2023, authorities arrested 22-year-old Jorge Flores in connection with Stywall's death. Flores was charged with murder, attempted murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Further developments revealed that Flores was also a suspect in another homicide on the same street. He was accused of murdering 25-year-old Keventz Harris on August 27, 2022, nearly a year before Stywall's death. Flores was charged with Harris's murder on August 28, 2023, while already in custody for the earlier charges.
The arrest of Jorge Flores brought some measure of closure to the families affected by these tragic events. The CMPD's ongoing investigations into both cases underscore the department's commitment to addressing violent crime in the community. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the pursuit of justice.
