On the night of May 6, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Sampson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Bud Spell Lane in Roseboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Marquese Moore, a resident of Garland, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. A female victim was also found at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries; she was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Following a swift investigation, authorities identified a suspect in the shooting. An 18-year-old male was taken into custody; however, his identity has been withheld because he was 17 at the time of the incident. He has been charged with murder through a juvenile petition and is currently held at a juvenile detention facility, awaiting proceedings to transfer his case to the adult court system.
Lieutenant Marcus Smith of the Sampson County Sheriff's Office commended the investigative team's diligence in gathering facts and conducting interviews, expressing hope that the arrest would begin to bring closure to Moore's grieving family.
