On May 12, 2023, 19-year-old Quincy Mills of Hollister, North Carolina, was found deceased in his vehicle on Evans Farm Road. The Halifax County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. Mills' family was notified, and an investigation into his death commenced.
Investigators determined that Mills had arranged to meet someone he knew from school, reportedly for a narcotics transaction involving marijuana.
Communication between Mills and an Instagram account linked to one of the suspects indicated plans for a meeting on Evans Farm Road. Mills' girlfriend became concerned when he failed to respond to her messages and calls, prompting her to contact his father, who ultimately discovered Mills' body.
The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals charged with first-degree murder in connection with Mills' death. On June 12, 2023, authorities arrested 21-year-old Eric Devon Hinton Jr. and 19-year-old Devonte Montrell Sykes, both from Rocky Mount. The following day, 19-year-old Zakevion Jaques Hilliard of Hollister surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. All three were held without bond.
Additionally, a juvenile suspect was identified and sought in connection with the case. On July 6, 2023, around 7:30 p.m., authorities located and arrested the juvenile in Rocky Mount. The juvenile was charged with first-degree murder and placed in the Halifax County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The arrests were facilitated by search warrants executed on cell phones and Instagram accounts, which provided critical information linking the suspects to the crime. Evidence indicated that the meeting between Mills and the suspects was arranged for a drug transaction, during which the fatal incident occurred.
As of the latest available information, all four suspects remain in custody, facing charges related to the murder of Quincy Mills. The Halifax County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
