Negotiations with Russell continued throughout the night, during which his twin children, Cyrus and Piper, remained inside the home.

Emergency responders forced entry into the burning home, rescuing both children. Cyrus was found with fatal injuries inflicted by his father and was pronounced dead at the scene.
