On October 21, 2023, in Stanley, North Carolina, 11-year-old Cyrus Lee Blakney tragically lost his life in a harrowing incident involving his father, 48-year-old Russell Blakney. Authorities had been attempting to serve Russell with an involuntary mental commitment order and a domestic violence protection order at their residence on Brentwood Lane. Negotiations with Russell continued throughout the night, during which his twin children, Cyrus and Piper, remained inside the home.
