On December 12, 2023, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the 4000 block of Meadowridge Drive in south Charlotte. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds: 36-year-old Brandy Cox, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and her husband, 40-year-old James Cox, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
