On December 22, 2023, at approximately 11:08 p.m., Fayetteville Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Orange Street and Chance Street in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 44-year-old Naeem Ibn Syed lying in the driveway of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.

An autopsy later revealed that Syed had sustained 17 gunshot wounds to various parts of his body, including the face, head, arms, and chest. At the scene, investigators recovered several .40 caliber shell casings. Notably, Syed was found clutching a sum of money and a bundle of suspected drugs in his hand.

Witnesses reported that Syed had attended a gathering at the residence on Orange Street earlier that evening. Surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts indicated that a silver Toyota Corolla transported Syed to the location, followed closely by a silver Lexus. Shortly after their arrival, an individual exited one of the vehicles, approached Syed, and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

At the time of his death, Syed was under community supervision, wearing a GPS ankle monitor due to prior convictions, including robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. This device allowed law enforcement to trace his movements leading up to the shooting.

As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Syed's death. The Fayetteville Police Department continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to contact Detective T. Kiger at (910) 705-6527 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-8477.

Syed's passing has left a void in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his father, Edward Syed; mother, Haneefah Armstrong; two brothers; two sisters; and a host of other relatives.

The community remains hopeful that forthcoming developments in the investigation will lead to justice for Naeem Ibn Syed and provide closure for his grieving loved ones.
