On January 21, 2024, at approximately 9:56 p.m., Greensboro police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3000 block of Patriot Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered 58-year-old Rodney Dwayne Watts with critical injuries. Despite prompt medical attention, Watts succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The following day, January 22, 2024, authorities arrested 44-year-old Eugene Rivers in connection with Watts' death. Rivers was charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping, with additional felony charges anticipated. He was subsequently held without bond at the Guilford County Jail.
This incident marked Greensboro's fourth homicide of 2024. The Greensboro Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
