On March 2, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred at The Commons at Pembroke apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The incident resulted in the deaths of 19-year-old Nicholas Logan, a resident of Lumberton, North Carolina, and 22-year-old Cameron Taylor, a sophomore nursing student at UNC Pembroke.
