On April 7, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Jessica Chandra Kirkland, a 34-year-old resident of Sylva, North Carolina, was found deceased in her home on Clayton Street. The Sylva Police Department promptly initiated an investigation, marking the town's first homicide case since 2011.
