Melody Nicole Conger, a 20-year-old Caucasian woman from Sylva, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on May 13, 2011. Melody was born on November 11, 1991, in Gainesville, Florida, and was the daughter of William Albert and Mickey Lorraine Conger. She was married to Matthew Wayne Moore and had a four-month-old daughter, Arianna Nicole Moore.
The circumstances surrounding Melody's death were deeply distressing.
On the day of her death, Melody had obtained a domestic violence protection order against her estranged husband, Matthew Wayne Moore. Despite this legal measure, Matthew Wayne Moore, aged 25, confronted Melody and another man, Kevin Shawn Frady, at a mobile home in Sylva. In a tragic turn of events, both Melody and Kevin were shot to death by Matthew.
Following the murders, Matthew Wayne Moore fled the scene but was apprehended hours later when he surrendered to the police in Easley, South Carolina. The couple's infant daughter was found unharmed outside the mobile home where the killings occurred.
Matthew Wayne Moore was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors initially sought the death penalty, but Matthew ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges. As a result, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case highlighted the severe consequences of domestic violence and the tragic loss of young lives.
