On April 14, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., 21-year-old Alyssia Lacole Adkins was fatally shot near the American Legion building on Old Wilkesboro Road in Salisbury, North Carolina. Emergency responders transported her to Baptist Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Alyssia was a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Dementia Unit at Salisbury Health and Rehabilitation, known for her dedication to caring for elderly patients.
She was also a former basketball standout at Mount Airy High School, remembered for her infectious smile and supportive nature.
In the aftermath of the incident, Salisbury Police Chief P.J. Smith reported that state and federal agencies, including the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and the FBI, were assisting with the investigation. He mentioned that the department had some strong leads but did not disclose specific details.
As of December 24, 2024, no arrests have been reported in connection with Alyssia's death. The Salisbury Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation.
