On April 26, 2024, in Waynesville, North Carolina, 85-year-old Ellen Rhodes Hoyle was found deceased alongside her husband, 89-year-old Richard Stuart Hoyle, in their residence at 15 Mississippi Avenue. The Waynesville Police Department responded to a 911 call made by Richard Hoyle around 11 a.m., during which he indicated that gunshots would be fired.
