On June 18, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Shelby Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting on Bridges Street near Shelby High School in Shelby, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they found 40-year-old Latoya Cornick Walker suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
