On June 27, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in the 1300 block of Wiregrass Road near Lumberton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Terry Leach Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite prompt medical attention, Leach succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified suspects connected to the homicide. On July 2, 2024, 24-year-old Shyheim Devonte Alford of Fairmont was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into occupied property, and assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present. He was detained at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
Subsequently, on July 22, 2024, a second suspect, 22-year-old Nalyjah Alford, also of Fairmont, was apprehended. She faced charges including first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into occupied property, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, and felony conspiracy. Nalyjah was likewise held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division led the investigation, with assistance from the Lumberton Police Department and the Fairmont Police Department.
