On July 13, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, deputies responded to a distress call at 976 Sunset Terrace in Whiteville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they found 35-year-old Summer Nicole Addison with gunshot wounds to her arm and abdomen. Emergency medical services determined she required immediate airlift to New Hanover Regional Hospital.
Harold Ford, Ms. Addison's boyfriend, informed authorities that he was not present during the incident.
He recounted receiving a frantic phone call from Ms. Addison, during which he overheard his grandson, Jordan Jyreke Irvin Williams, threatening her and demanding money. The call abruptly ended with the sound of gunshots, prompting Mr. Ford to rush home, where he discovered Ms. Addison injured. Earlier that day, Mr. Ford had asked Mr. Williams to leave the residence due to his intoxicated state, during which Mr. Williams threatened to return. Shortly after his departure, gunshots were fired into the home, leaving multiple bullet holes.
Witnesses corroborated that Mr. Williams returned to the residence, forcibly entered through a window, and shot Ms. Addison. Deputies collected spent shell casings from both inside and outside the home. The following day, July 14, 2024, at approximately 1:30 PM, Mr. Williams was arrested without incident in Chadbourn. He was charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of first-degree burglary and is currently held without bond.
Ms. Addison's passing has left a profound void in her community. Born on May 31, 1989, she is remembered by her father, Charles Washington Jr., her adopted mother, Glenda Addison, and numerous siblings, among other relatives and friends. Her life was celebrated in a service held on July 25, 2024, at Butler Branch Baptist Church in Fair Bluff, North Carolina.
The tragic circumstances surrounding Ms. Addison's death have deeply affected the Whiteville community, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence and gun-related incidents.
