On October 26, 2024, 30-year-old Brandi Alexis Scott was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the 100 block of Elizabeth Street near Whiteville, North Carolina. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives identified 71-year-old Fredrick Smith, believed to be Brandi Scott’s boyfriend, as the suspect. Smith was arrested and charged with murder.
He is currently being held in the Columbus County Detention Center without bond.
Brandi Scott, a resident of Chadbourn, North Carolina, is survived by her three children: Saniyah King, Derrick Robinson Jr., and Braydon Scott. She is also survived by her mother, Tracy Sabrina Jenkins, and several siblings. Her funeral service was held on November 3, 2024, at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo, North Carolina.
This tragic incident adds to the concerning number of domestic violence-related homicides in North Carolina. Advocacy groups continue to raise awareness about the importance of addressing domestic violence and providing support to victims to prevent such tragedies.
