In the early hours of October 15, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the 2900 block of Reid Avenue in west Charlotte. Upon arrival around 12:30 a.m., officers discovered 56-year-old Curtis Alvin Sherer inside his residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
