In the early hours of October 15, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the 2900 block of Reid Avenue in west Charlotte. Upon arrival around 12:30 a.m., officers discovered 56-year-old Curtis Alvin Sherer inside his residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that unknown assailants fired multiple shots into Sherer's home in a drive-by shooting while he was asleep. A 16-year-old girl was also present in the house at the time but was unharmed. Witnesses reported hearing approximately nine gunshots and observed an individual fleeing from the vicinity of the residence immediately after the incident.
As of now, CMPD has not announced any arrests or identified any suspects related to Sherer's death. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the CMPD Homicide Unit directly or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
