On October 19, 2024, 21-year-old Ja'wuane Thomas Baker was fatally shot along the 100 block of Grantham Street in Red Springs, North Carolina. Red Springs Police Chief Sarah Purcell confirmed that Baker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Red Springs Police Department, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, launched an investigation into the homicide. Chief Purcell indicated that a suspect had been identified and that authorities were hopeful an arrest ...
