On May 23, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., 66-year-old Reda Girgis was fatally shot outside ChopCheese Deli, a family-owned establishment located at West 162nd Street and Broadway in Washington Heights, New York City. Girgis, a resident of Egypt, was visiting his son and daughter-in-law, who were expecting a child. He was standing near the deli when a drive-by shooting occurred, resulting in a bullet striking him in the head. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
