On the morning of September 4, 2023, Buffalo Police responded to a residence on the first block of Zelmer Street, near Doat Street, following reports of a domestic incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of 54-year-old Joyce Brown and her husband, 61-year-old Anthony Brown, inside their home. The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office conducted autopsies and determined that Anthony Brown fatally shot his wife before taking his own life, ruling the case a murder-suicide.
