In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in Brooklyn, tragedy struck, leaving a young man's life cut short and a community searching for answers. Rahquill Weekes, a 22-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting on June 1, 2024, within the Sheepshead Bay Houses. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:58 a.m. near an apartment building on Avenue W.
Responding to a 911 call reporting a person shot, officers from the 61st Precinct and NYPD PSA 1 discovered Weekes unconscious
and unresponsive. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his lower left back. Emergency medical services promptly arrived at the scene and transported him to Brookdale University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, Rahquill Weekes was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police had not yet determined a motive for the attack, and a description of the perpetrator or perpetrators had not been released. Crime scene detectives meticulously combed the area for evidence, recovering numerous shell casings as they worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
