Barbara Lawrence, a 76-year-old White/Caucasian female from Amsterdam, New York, died on September 16, 2024, in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. She was born in Amsterdam on March 1, 1948. On the morning of her death, at approximately 8:24 a.m., State Police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at her residence on Voorhees Road in the town of Perth.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Barbara and her 75-year-old husband, Guy E. Lawrence, in the backyard of their home. Both had sustained gunshot wounds, and a handgun was found near Mr. Lawrence's body. The preliminary investigation led the New York State Police to believe the incident was a murder-suicide. At the time of the initial reports, the investigation was ongoing, and no other suspects were being sought.
Barbara was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and Good Counsel in White Plains, New York. She was primarily a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her home and family. She had been married to her husband, Guy, for 53 years. Together they had two children and four grandchildren. Her greatest joy was said to be spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
