On March 18, 2023, Adayshia Jackson, a 28-year-old female, was tragically killed at her residence in Spanish Lake, an unincorporated area of St. Louis County, Missouri. While the fatal incident occurred in Spanish Lake, Jackson was deeply connected to the community of Glendale, Missouri, where her father served as a well-known and beloved public works employee. The events unfolded on a Saturday, just one day after Jackson had celebrated her birthday.
Police officers were dispatched to her home in the 1100 block of Soria Street following reports of a shooting, where they discovered Jackson deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators determined that Jackson had been involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, 47-year-old Darrick Dillon. The argument escalated into violence when Dillon produced a firearm and shot Jackson multiple times. Despite sustaining critical injuries, Jackson managed to flee from the house in a desperate attempt to escape. However, Dillon pursued her outside, overpowered her, and dragged her wounded body back into the residence, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Following the murder, Dillon took Jackson’s mobile phone and disposed of the firearm used in the shooting to conceal evidence of the crime.
The case progressed rapidly after Dillon confessed to his parents that he had 'made a mistake' and was 'going away,' prompting law enforcement to locate and apprehend him. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Dillon admitted to shooting Jackson, dragging her back into the home, and discarding the murder weapon. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Darrick Dillon with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and three counts of tampering with physical evidence. He was ordered held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $500,000 cash-only bond. The tragedy elicited a strong outpouring of support from the Glendale community, which rallied around Jackson's family to assist with funeral expenses and support her two young children left behind.
