On the evening of July 3, 2023, in the quiet community of Saint-Ann, Missouri, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragic event that claimed the lives of three family members, including 14-year-old Kyrien Stevenson. The teenager, a male, was fatally shot inside his home on Jane Avenue.
The violence began when Coleman C. McIlvain, the 34-year-old boyfriend of Kyrien's mother, Seychelle Jackson, became embroiled in an argument with her.
McIlvain, who had been drinking, wanted to take Jackson's car, but she refused. In response, McIlvain opened fire, tragically cutting short the lives of Jackson, who was 30, her son Kyrien, and her 5-year-old daughter, Ushara Schaumburg.
When police arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., they discovered a horrific scene. Kyrien was found deceased in the kitchen, and his mother was found in the garage. Little Ushara was gravely wounded in the living room and succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to a hospital. A fourth child, a 9-year-old girl and another of Jackson's children, was shot in the hand but managed to escape to a neighbor's house and alert the authorities. She was the sole survivor of the rampage.
Officers also located McIlvain inside the residence, suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Authorities have identified McIlvain as the sole suspect in the triple homicide, concluding the investigation as a murder-suicide. The community was left to mourn the devastating loss of a mother and her two young children.
