On October 7, 2023, at approximately 12:00 PM, Kansas City police responded to a reported shooting in the 2700 block of Independence Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 42-year-old Broderick A. Brown unresponsive inside a business establishment. Emergency medical services pronounced him deceased at the scene.
