On October 8, 2023, Ronnie E. Winnett, a 66-year-old White male and lifelong resident of Joplin, Missouri, passed away. Born in Joplin on November 13, 1956, he was the son of Carl and JoAnn Winnett. He spent his life in the area, eventually building a career and family within the community. He was a graduate of Missouri Southern State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
Following his education, he worked in security at Freeman Hospital for many years until his retirement in 2021.
Winnett was known in his community for his diverse interests and hobbies. He was an active member of the MAKO Fly Fishers and spent much of his free time engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, camping, and photography. He also had a passion for cooking and a deep affection for animals, particularly his border collie, Rocky. He was survived by his wife, Jane, to whom he had been married since October 28, 1978, as well as their son and extended family members.
Regarding the circumstances of his death, authorities investigated the incident and determined that Winnett died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The official ruling on the case was suicide. Consequently, law enforcement did not seek any suspects in connection with the fatality, and no arrests were made or charges filed. The case was closed without criminal prosecution, as the findings concluded there was no involvement of other parties in his death. A memorial visitation was subsequently held for him at a local chapel in Joplin.
