In the afternoon hours of a Saturday in St. Louis, a violent encounter at a city intersection brought a brutal end to the life of 35-year-old Bryan Boyle. On April 13, 2024, Boyle was behind the wheel of his sedan, waiting patiently for the traffic light to change at the junction of Page Boulevard and North Sarah Street in the Vandeventer neighborhood.
The seemingly ordinary moment turned fatal when a gray Dodge Charger pulled up alongside his vehicle.
From within the Charger, a driver unleashed a volley of gunfire, striking Boyle multiple times in the torso. The assailant then sped away, leaving Boyle gravely wounded. Emergency services were called to the scene just after 2 p.m., and Boyle was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a man with a past connection to Boyle. Authorities identified 30-year-old Samuel Lamont Hayes Jr. as the alleged killer. Court documents revealed a history of violence between the two men, stemming from a dispute four years prior in 2020 when Boyle had shot Hayes. Though no charges were filed in that earlier incident, it is believed to be the motive for the deadly retaliation.
Samuel Lamont Hayes Jr. was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Boyle's death. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond as he awaits legal proceedings.
