In the quiet community of Redings Mill, near Joplin, Missouri, a grim discovery was made on the evening of June 1, 2024. Inside a home on Clark Road, authorities found 65-year-old Vicki Clanton, a female, deceased from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The events that led to this tragic scene began to unfold around 9:50 p.m. when the Newton County Central Dispatch Center received a chilling phone call.
The caller, later identified as 62-year-old William Clanton, stated that he
had shot his wife multiple times and that she was dead. In the same call, he declared his intention to take his own life. Patrol units were immediately dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, the Newton County Special Response Team made entry into the home and found Vicki Clanton on the floor. Nearby, they discovered the body of William Clanton, who had a single, fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators from the Newton County Sheriff's Office processed the scene. Their investigation concluded that William Clanton shot and killed his wife, Vicki, before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. No further suspects were sought in connection with the deaths. The case, therefore, did not proceed to an arrest, trial, or conviction. The incident left the community in shock and brought a violent end to the lives of the couple.
