On June 2, 2014, authorities in Newton County, Missouri, were called to a residence in the Bykota Mobile Home Park, located east of Joplin. Inside the home, emergency responders discovered 3-year-old Miranda Joann Doerr suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The young girl was transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
