In the early morning hours of June 5, 2024, a violent incident unfolded along a major highway in St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of a young man named Caryon Harmon. The 19-year-old Black male, who was a resident of Wentzville, was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 when the shooting occurred. At approximately 1:30 a.m., near the intersection with Madison Street, gunfire erupted, targeting the vehicle Harmon was occupying.
The chaotic scene on the interstate resulted in a double
shooting, striking both Harmon and a 21-year-old female who was also in the car. Following the attack, the victims managed to transport themselves to a local hospital in a desperate bid for medical attention before law enforcement officers could arrive at the highway crime scene. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Harmon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the medical center. The female victim survived the ordeal, having sustained a graze wound during the barrage of gunfire.
Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation immediately following the death. While authorities determined that the suspect involved was a male, no further description or identity was initially released to the public. As of late 2024, reports indicated that no arrests had been made in connection with the murder, and the case remained active with police urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving the fatal highway shooting.
