In a tragic turn of events on June 26, 2024, a dispute between two men in Branson, Missouri, escalated to a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 27-year-old James Anderson. The White / Caucasian male died from a gunshot wound to the head. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:00 p.m. at a residence on Cannonball Loop, just north of Branson.
Earlier in the day, Taney County Sheriff's deputies had been called to intervene in a heated argument between Anderson and 36-year-old Mitchell Hale. Law enforcement had advised both men to stay away from each other. However, the conflict reignited later when Anderson reportedly followed Hale into his apartment. It was inside the residence that Hale allegedly shot Anderson.
Although a folding knife was found in Anderson's pocket, authorities stated there was no indication that he posed an immediate threat to Hale at the time of the shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene, deputies found Anderson with a gunshot wound and, despite medical attention, he was pronounced dead. Mitchell Hale was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Taney County Jail without bond.

He spent a significant portion of his life moving between California and Lebanon, Missouri, primarily working in construction. Known for his love of the outdoors, Anderson enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and hunting for arrowheads. He was remembered by his family and friends for the great love he had for them. A celebration of his life was held on July 13, 2024. The investigation into his death is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
