On July 28, 2024, at approximately 3:22 a.m., Springfield police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the parking lot of the Wicked Superstore located at 425 E. Kearney Street. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting but learned that the victim, identified as 31-year-old D’Vaunte Tavon Grant from Texas, had already been transported to a local hospital by a citizen. Tragically, Grant succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
